England Vs India, 2nd ODI, Jul 14, Sat: Match Preview & Prediction

With India romping home to a comfortable victory over England in the 1st ODI played at Trent Bridge, the stage is set for the second encounter between the two top-ranking sides on July 14, 2018, at the Lords. Although the first ODI was a one-sided affair with visitors outplaying the hosts in every department of the game, the second ODI is more likely to be a keenly contested match. The Englishmen would be keen to bounce back strongly to keep the series alive and their domination in the 50 over cricket intact. While, on the other hand, Indians will press hard to seal the three-match series with a 2-0 lead. The stakes are high and both teams will go out all guns blazing.

Given the stellar performance in the first ODI, India enters the second encounter as the favourites. The openers have delivered with Rohit Sharma putting up his 18th ODI century and Shikhar Dhawan also looking in fine nick in his brisk 40-run inning. Kohli also looked solid in his 75-run knock off 82 balls, stitching a match winning 167-run partnership with Rohit. On the bowling front, Kuldeep Yadav came up with a brilliant spell picking up 6 wickets for 25 runs, which is his career-best performance in the 50-50 format. However, with Bhuvneshwar looking off colour and Bumrah ruled out of the series, the pace department is a cause of worry for Indians.

Fresh from an emphatic series win over arch-rivals, Australia, England surrendered meekly to the buoyant Indians. The English top order is struggling to read Kuldeep, as the Chinaman continues to get wickets in heaps. The bowling was below par, lacking the intent and skills to deter India from scoring runs at will. That said England has the firepower in the batting and bowling departments to turn the tables on Indians in the 2nd encounter. Hopefully, they will take the defeat in their stride and put up a consolidated effort and get back to winning ways.
