Australia has already lost the ODI series to India with only two rubbers left to play in the five-match series. Now, quite obviously everyone is busy speculating – will India finish it with 5-0 whitewash?
Amazing Performance So Far
The Indian team is on a roar with all the players in the team contributing to the nail-biting finishes and wins. This is probably the reason why the home side has not lost a single match in the last nine held. It is one of the longest winning streaks for India when it comes to ODI. Australia, on the other hand, has lost in ten of its one-day matches in the last 11 they have played outside Australia. Australia hasn’t played a one-day match for long. In fact, after they crashed out of the Champions Trophy held in June 2017, in the group stage itself, they haven’t played any.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had predicted before the start of the series that India will win it. He believed that the Indian team is strong and defeating them on home grounds will be tough. But he was also of the opinion that a 5-0 series win will be tough.
Luck Favored India in 1st ODI
In the first ODI that was held in Chennai, the visitors were in a good position in the beginning, but both Dhoni and Pandya remained cool and took on the visiting bowlers. The lower order did a brilliant job making the best of the limited opportunities they had. It was Pandya who was the game changer working brilliantly with both ball and bat. India won it by 26 runs by D/L method.
Great Defense in 2nd ODI
In the second ODI held at Kolkata, the visitors were bowled out in 43.1 overs at 202, short of 50 runs of the target of 252 set by the Indians. It is considered an easy target in modern-day cricket, but the Indians defended it pretty easily. A beautiful knock of 92 by the Indian skipper and brilliant efforts by the bowlers was a treat to the eyes. Kuldeep bagged the hat-trick and Bhuvneshwar Kumar troubled the Australians with his new-ball swing grabbing 3 wickets for just 9 runs.
Pandy Did it Again in 3rd ODI
The third ODI at Indore had a good batting pitch. Pandya was promoted up the order, and he lived up to the expectations bagging the man of the match. The Australian skipper was all praise for Pandya, Sharma and Rahane for their composed batting. Finch played a knock of 124, but that was not enough to clinch a win for the Aussies.
India has Whitewashed Sri Lanka 5-0 Earlier
India has just won a five-match ODI series 5-0 against Sri Lanka. The fans are expecting the Indian squad to repeat the performance with Australia too. Given the form that Indian cricketers are in, it looks that the wishes of the fans will be granted.
The Indian selectors are doing a great job by assessing youngsters and offering them an opportunity to showcase their talent. The next World Cup is due in 2019 and this rotation policy of theirs is giving a chance to all the potential talent to hone their skills, play against the best players of the world and learn to keep their cool under all circumstances.
India is currently the top-ranked team in the world and the fans want them to seal the series by whitewashing Australia just as they smashed out Sri Lanka with a grand 5-0 victory.
