After almost a decade, Bangladesh Tigers would be visiting South Africa for a multi format cricket tournament. The tournament would have 2 Test matches, 3 ODIs and 2 T20Is. The first test is already underway and it looks like the Proteas are going to take the lead in this tournament. Bangladesh has some good players in excellent form, which is why they are giving the Proteas a good competition.
Here is the expected squad of both the teams for their first ODI clash that is going to be held on 15th October, 2017 at Diamond Oval in Kimberley:
Bangladesh Cricket Team:
Mushfiqur Rahim (c), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Mominul Haque, Mehidy Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Liton Das, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Shafiul Islam, Subashis Roy and Rubel Hossain
South African Cricket Team:
Faf du Plessis (c), Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Theunis de Bruyn, Quinton de Kock, Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Morne Morkel, Duanne Olivier, Wayne Parnell Andile Phehlukwayo and Kagiso Rabada
Players to Watch
Mustafizur Rahman is Tiger’s prized bowler and almost all high end batsmen get tricked by his bowling. Another fast pacer, Taskin Ahmed has troubled various batsmen in the past. These players along with batsmen like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah and Mominul Haque can give a tough competition to the Proteas.
Bangladesh has a strong middle order, which gives them the advantage of posing huge totals on the board. South Africa is known to struggle under high pressure situations. So, if Bangladesh is able to put forward a huge total if they bat first, it is going to be difficult for the Proteas to chase.
South Africa has some of the best batsmen in the world. Hasim Amla’s average is the highest in ODIs in the entire world. Quinton de Kock is another hard-hitting batsman, which could be a problem for the Tigers. The absence of AB De Villiers from the side might be a boon for the Bangladeshi team, but Faf du Plessis has done an excellent job leading the team and he himself is excellent with the bat.
For bowling, the Proteas have the likes of Rabada and Morne Morkel. These bowlers have a different level of class and they always come through for their team in terms of wickets. Morne Morkel is also good with the bat. So, the Proteas have someone down the order to ensure a big total or chase one.
The Tigers have done their best in the first test but couldn’t stop the Proteas. Registering a win in the first test would definitely give a confidence boost to the Proteas. Winning the second test is going to be highly important for the Tigers or their morale for the ODI series might be shaken.
If Proteas register wins in both the Tests, it is going to be difficult for the Tigers to win in the first ODI against them, but it won’t be impossible. Bangladeshis are known to bounce back really strong. They have come a long way in these nine years and this team has the potential to take on the best teams of the world.
The ODI match could go either way, but more bets are on the South Africans winning the first ODI in Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa 2017.
