The Indian cricket team is currently on South Africa tour. They are there to play a total of 3 test matches, 6 one-day internationals and 3 T-20s. The entire tour will last for nearly two months. Currently, the second test match is on and India is already down in the test series with 1-0 having lost the first test match that was held in Newlands, Cape Town.
The 6 match ODI series will start on 1st Feb with the first match to be played at Kingsmead, Durban. The Proteas are a tough side to beat especially when they are on their home turf. This tour is touted as the most challenging assignment for Indian skipper, Virat Kohli who had quite successful innings last year.
The Indian team, however, under their skipper now follow a strategy to crush their opponents and seem to have all their bases covered. They are ready for a green wicket, flat wicket and also if the wicket spins. Their bowling attack has the sharpness to knock over any batting line-ups. If their batting line-up fires, they are on the formidable side to contain! The Indian one-day cricket squad has got a lot of depth and they have been experimenting with their composition for quite some time.
Proteas too have players of calibre and with the first test win they are already on a high. The test series outcome will definitely play on the minds of the players in the first ODI match.

India is touring South Africa in 2017-18 and the tour started on 5th January 2018. The tour comprises 3 tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20Is. The first ODI is going to be held on 1st February 2018 at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban. So far, things have gone the host’s way and the visitors are finding it difficult to tackle the bowling of South African seamers. We still can’t say how things would pan out for the visitors in this tour, but here is a prediction for the 1st ODI between these two teams.
The pitch of Kingsmead is pretty balanced, which would ensure no unfair advantage to the seamers. This is good news for Indian batsmen as they can finally show their class without worrying about nicking the wrong ball. If Indian batsmen play more freely, they might end up putting a huge total for the Proteas and it has been seen in the past that South Africa gets a little overwhelmed when they are put under pressure.
The bowlers of India are pretty balanced and if spin comes into play, it is game over for the Proteas. All in all, India seems to be a stronger team for the first ODI. It still depends upon the temperament of the players after the test series.
If South Africans need a win, they need to tackle Indian spin attack and if Indians need a win, their openers need to stay on crease for long. The teams are pretty strong on paper and it all depends upon which team handles pressure better, which is why the Men in Blue have a higher chance of winning the 1st ODI.
Predicted Winner: Team India (IN)
