There is no doubt that the Indian spinners and captain Virat Kohli have played a major role in India’s two victories. It is anticipated that spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal continue spinning the ball to mesmerize the South Africans.
Of course, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan have proved all over again that they are one-day specialist players. Their superior batting led a 93-run partnership that was the key to the Men in Blue winning the second ODI in the 21st over.
All eyes will be on Aiden Markram, who has been appointed as the stand-in captain for the South Africans with Faf du Plessis out for the 3rd ODI. Markram has already expressed his displeasure that the Proteas do not have sufficient time to prepare for the game, but he hopes that the team will be able to turn things around and win the game at Cape Town. He believes that the South Africans have to believe in themselves and bowl well from the very beginning.
3rd ODI Prediction
The jury is out on the third ODI. The way Virat’s boys have been playing, it shows that some of Kohli’s aggressive nature has rubbed onto them. They are excited and motivated to prove the naysayers wrong. The tables have turned and now the Indians are the favorite team to win the third ODI.
However, the South Africans have to save face, especially since the top rank is at stake. They need to win to keep their chances of winning the series alive. Though, even if they draw the series, the South Africans will still stay the number one ranked ODI team in the world. But, that of course is not the aim. Proteas were aiming to win the series hands down. After two losses, things are very different.
If Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, and the bowlers (particularly the spinners) can perform well, it will be India all over again. A lot depends on these players. On the other hand, if the South Africans can perform well with the bowlers to restrict India, their chances of winning will increase substantially.
As the 3rd ODI is a day and night match, the team that wins the toss will have an edge.
